Notice
Please note, the SimActiveList is now closed due to the changes in ICQ 2001b that have removed the support for the popular feature. As a result, the decision has been made to permanently shut down the ActiveList in favor of our brand new and more permanent IRC chat room. Visit our SimGames chat page for more information. Thank you for supporting our ActiveList. It's been a great ride. :-)

The contents of this page are now obsolete. You can no longer add or join this ActiveList.

The ActiveList is a feature available to users of ICQ 99b through 2000b that allows users to gather and share their interests with other people. The SimActiveList allows any ICQ user that is a fan of SimGames to join a chat, promote their website, meet users to arrange network games of SimCity 2000 Network Edition or Streets of SimCity, and more.

The SimActiveList is a general ActiveList which is open to any Maxis SimGames fan that is interested in discussing any Maxis title. Discussion topics are not generally strictly limited. Click here for information on joining our List.

You may wish to take a quick look at our rules before you join. You will be expected to follow these rules whenever you are using the ActiveList. Click here to see them.

Joining The SimActiveList

If you don't need any help joining an ActiveList, here's all the information you need to know:

ActiveList ID 49283548

Join our activelist with a single click!

After clicking the link, click here to see what to do next. If you are having trouble with this method, try going through the long way, as shown below.

One of the primary requirements of using ActiveLists is that you must be running ICQ 99b through 2000b. The example to the left is using ICQ 2000b, but the 99b window should look similar. If you want to download ICQ 2000b now, click here.

If you do not see the ActiveList frame (see example on right) you will need to click the small AL button above your contact list (). In ICQ 99b, this button may say "Show AL." In more recent versions of ICQ, the ActiveList button may appear among the icons to the right of the contact list, as you can see on the image to the left.

Once clicked, the frame (shown above, right) should appear below your Contact List as shown in the image to the left.

In order to join the ActiveList, you will need to right click the button, so that a menu like the one on the right appears.

From that menu, click "Find/Add an ICQ ActiveList." A search dialog box will now appear. Make sure that "Show only online ActiveLists" is not checked. Enter the appropriate list ID (49283548) in the "ID#" box as shown here, and click the button.

ICQ will now display a list of ActiveList that matched your query. (only one ActiveList should appear.) Now click on that item and then click the button.

ICQ will now alert you that you have added the ActiveList with a notice like the one on the right.

If the list is online, the dialog on the left will appear immediately. Simply click the button and you will become a member.

If the list is not online, you will not see this dialog until the next time the ActiveList is available. When it pops up, just click the button to complete your registration.

In order to access a particular ActiveList, click its name in the ActiveList frame of your contact list. To access list features, such as the chat room, click on the list's name, then click on the button at the top of the window for a menu of possible options.

List Management

Some of the functions that are accessible to Administrators require that you have the ActiveList Manager installed on your computer and your administrator password. (If you have forgotten your password, please contact me and I'll set a new one of your choice.)

Administrators need the manager to view server information, disconnect and ban users from the list, change user access levels, and change the online state of the server, etc.

The ActiveList Manager is bundled with the ActiveList Server software. To begin using the Manager, simply download and install the AL Server by clicking on the icon below. Then, to manage the list, simply go to your contact list, click the SimActiveList Button and click "Manage List." You'll now have the server installed, so you'll be able to easily create your own ActiveList as well.

Extras

We've had plenty of time for inside jokes and fun.

To start off, GAR!!!! That's the official exclamation of the SimActiveList. We recommend setting this sound as your ICQ Chat LOL! sound in your ICQ preferences. (Extra-special thanks to Nick Steffel for the idea, and Ed Cory for the audio work)

Don't forget the ActiveList slogan: "You dare it, me, Simmy, the Maskchotten?" This works great for your ICQ Chat Beep! (Thanks once again to the creative genius of Mr. Steffel, and the vocal Talents of Ed Cory, as well as babelfish, to which we owe our beautifully mistranslated slogan.)

You can download the sounds from SimGamerz.net:

Please Note: For the safety of all members, we must maintain an "ism"-free environment at all times.
